Chennai, July 29 -- Amid reports reported move for privatisation, the sale of liquor through the state-run TASMAC retail outletswas one of the major revenue earners for the Tamil Nadu government to fund its various flagship and populist schemes of the successive Dravidian governments, with the numbers showing significant increase with every passing year.
The revenue has inched towards Rs 50,000 crore mark towards the end of 2025, and once the final figures at the end of 2025-26 fiscal are known, the numbers would have far exceeded this.
