Chennai, June 12 -- The Madras High Court, on Friday ordered issuance of notice returnable by 8 weeks, to the union and Tamil Nadu governments against the Home Ministry Order mandating rendition of Vande Mataram first followed by the National Anthem during the state ceremony attended by the Governors.
The petition challenged a January 28, 2026, circular issued by the union Ministry of Home Affairs titled "Orders relating to the National Song of India."The First Bench comprising Chief Justice SA Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan ordered issuance of the notices on a plea that also sought a direction to ensure that Tamil Nadu's state invocation song "Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu" (Invocation song to Mother Tamil), which was relegated to the th...
