New Delhi, June 23 -- The Tamil Nadu Government has moved the Supreme Court against a Madras High Court order permitting the lighting of the 'Karthigai Deepam' atop a stone pillar near a Dargah on Thiruparankundram Hill in Madurai district.

The State has filed a Special Leave Petition challenging the January 6 judgment of a division bench of the Madras High Court's Madurai Bench, which upheld a single-judge order passed in December last year allowing the lamp-lighting ceremony at the site.

The Tamil Nadu Government approached the Supreme Court on June 11, challenging the Madras High Court's orders permitting the lighting of the 'Karthigai Deepam' at the Deepa Thoon, a stone lamp pillar located near a Dargah on Thirupparankundram Hill. The...
