Paris, May 26 -- Four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek and Australian Open winner Elena Rybakina advanced to the second round at Roland Garros, while veterans Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils announced their retirements.

Third seed Swiatek, playing her first Grand Slam since beginning a coaching partnership with Rafael Nadal's longtime mentor Francis Roig, eased past Australian teenager Emerson Jones 6-1, 6-2 in just one hour while second seed Rybakina also put on a dominant performance to beat Slovenia's Veronika Erjavec 6-2, 6-2 on Monday.
