Kolkata, Sept. 3 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday promised to keep the state's film industry free from political interference and ensure transparency, as a four-day state-wide celebration marking the birth centenary of legendary actor Uttam Kumar began in Kolkata.
Adhikari, who led a series of programmes commemorating Uttam Kumar's contribution to Indian cinema, paid floral tribute to the actor's statue at Tollygunge Metro station at around 10.30 am. Veteran actor Ranjit Mallick paid tribute before the chief minister.
Explaining the protocol, Adhikari said, "Though I was the first to pay the tribute, I felt I could not do so when Ranjit Da is present on the occasion. So, I requested him to pay his tribute first."...
