Kolkata, Sept. 26 -- West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday night called a sudden press conference at the state secretariat to dismiss reports that President Droupadi Murmu had returned the state's controversial anti-goonda bill, saying the legislation had not yet reached the President.
Addressing reporters at Nabanna around 9.45 pm, Adhikari said the reports were "fake news" and asserted that the bill was still being processed by the union Home Ministry.
"The bill is yet to reach the honourable President. It is with the union Home Ministry at the Joint Secretary level. We have made detailed queries since the afternoon.
The bill is still with the Home Ministry," he said.
