Kolkata, May 9 -- BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is set to take oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday, marking the annointment of the first BJP govenrment in the eastern state.

The 55-year-old will become West Bengal's ninth Chief Minister and the first from the Bharatiya Janata Party since Independence, signalling a historic political shift in the state's power structure.

At Brigade Parade Ground, Governor R.N. Ravi will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Adhikari.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending the oath ceremony.

Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Chief Ministers from multiple BJP-ruled states are also present.
