Washington/Tehran, Aug. 7 -- Suspected Iran-linked cyberattacks targeting US drinking water systems have exposed deep rooted vulnerabilities of the country's ageing water infrastructure amid the consistently increasing cyberattacks at thousands of its locally managed utilities.
The attacks highlight a plethora of longstanding weaknesses in a fragmented system already under pressure from ageing infrastructure, climate change and limited funding.
The US has more than 144,000 public water systems, including around 50,000 community water systems that provide year-round drinking water, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
