Bengaluru, Sept. 23 -- Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday urged people living along forest fringes and possessing unlicensed firearms to surrender the weapons at their jurisdictional police stations by November 1.
Making the appeal while presenting the state's stand on the Kasturirangan report in the Legislative Assembly, Mr Shivakumar said the government was concerned over the use of unlicensed guns for hunting wildlife in forest areas.
He said thousands of cameras had now been installed in forests with the help of new technology to protect wildlife and forests, and warned people against entering forests for hunting.
