New Delhi, May 27 -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the legality of the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, observing that the exercise furthers the constitutional mandate of free and fair elections.
The Court ruled that the Election Commission is empowered to conduct the SIR under Article 324 of the Constitution, along with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and the rules framed under it.
