New Delhi, July 29 -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday set aside a 2015 order of a Special CBI Court that had summoned former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in the coal block allocation case, ruling that the trial court had no valid basis to reject the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) closure report in the case.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justices Joymalya Bagchi, and V Mohana allowed the appeal, accepted the CBI's closure reports exonerating the former PM and brought the proceedings to a close.
