Kolkata/New Delhi, Aug. 3 -- The Supreme Court directed the Calcutta High Court to hear within a week Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee's plea seeking permission to travel abroad for eye treatment.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice V Mohana passed the order on Monday after Banerjee's counsel informed the apex court that the matter was being delayed before the Calcutta High Court despite its urgency.
At the outset of the hearing, senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing for Banerjee, submitted that his client urgently required permission to travel overseas for medical treatment.
