Chandigarh, Aug. 13 -- Former Punjab deputy chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal is stable and out of danger after a failed attempt by a sevadar to attack him at a gurdwara in Maharashtra's Nanded town on Thursday, district collector Rahul Kardile said.

Kardile said the incident took place at around 1:50 p.m. when Badal arrived at Mata Sahib Gurdwara in the Hazur Sahib complex to pay obeisance.

"A sevadar suddenly attempted to attack him," Kardile said, adding that a member of the Special Protection Unit intervened and prevented the assault from escalating.
