Hyderabad, July 17 -- Thousands of students on Friday staged a protest at the Hyderabad Collectorate, demanding the immediate release of Rs 8,000 crore in pending fee reimbursement dues for nearly 14 lakh college students across Telangana.

Led by State BC Student Association leaders Nikhil Patel and Neela Venkatesh, the protesters demanded withdrawal of G.O. No. 9 and restoration of the fee reimbursement scheme in its earlier form.

Addressing the gathering, BC Welfare Association National President R. Krishnaiah alleged that the state government was attempting to dismantle the fee reimbursement scheme by failing to allocate adequate funds.
