Hyderabad, July 10 -- Student organisations on Friday claimed that the statewide shutdown of educational institutions, called to protest what they termed the Congress government's "neglect" of the education sector, was successful with participation from students across Telangana.

Leaders of SFI, AISF, PDSU, AIDSO, AIFDS, AISB and AIPSU alleged that police detained several students after a scuffle broke out during a protest and siege of the state ministers' residential complex in Hyderabad. They accused the police of using force against peaceful protesters and termed it an attack on democratic rights.
