Brussels, May 28 -- Kaja Kallas, EU foreign policy chief and Vice-President of the European Commission, warned on Thursday that the Strait of Hormuz remains stuck in a "dangerous grey zone between war and peace" as tensions involving Iran continue to threaten global maritime security.

Speaking after meetings with EU foreign ministers, Kallas said there is a fragile diplomatic effort underway to extend the ceasefire and reopen the strategic waterway.

"There is now a diplomatic push to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait," she said.

She added that any initial US-Iran understanding would need to be followed by deeper negotiations addressing Iran's nuclear programme, including its stockpile and other regional security concerns. The EU...
