New Delhi, July 21 -- Indian stock markets on Tuesday ended lower for the second consecutive session amid volatile trading. Weakness in heavyweight private banks and elevated crude oil prices led to the markets volatility.
At close, the Sensex was down 238.41 points or 0.31 percent at 77,470.11, and the Nifty was down 50.80 points or 0.21 percent at 24,187.70, Nifty Midcap 100 index gaining 0.3% and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index advancing 0.5%.
Among the sectors, Nifty PSU Bank ended as the top loser, falling 0.88%. Nifty IT and Oil and Gas suffered losses of 0.61% and 0.50%, respectively.
Further, Nifty Bank declined 0.19%, and the Financial Services index ended with a loss of 0.16%.
