New Delhi, May 4 -- Stock market staged a strong rebound on Monday recovering from Thursday's sharp sell-off amid the election results announcement in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, and the union Territory of Puducherry.

At close, the Sensex was up 355.90 points or 0.46 per cent at 77,269.40, and the Nifty was up 121.75 points or 0.51 per cent at 24,119.30. Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices rose about 0.5pc each.

Among the sectors, metal, realty, infrastructure, and pharma indices gained around 0.5-1pc, while IT, media, and PSU Bank indices ended lower.
