Los Angeles, June 29 -- Emmy-winning and renowned multi-BAFTA screenwriter Stephen Poliakoff is returning to major television drama to write "The Order", an eight-part historical political thriller set during 'The Great Siege of Malta' in 1565.
The series came to light at the Mediterrane Film Festival's yearly Golden Bee Awards ceremony, as notified by Malta Film Commissioner Johann Grech.
Based on the novel by Peter Portelli, "The Order" will unfold against the backdrop of a pivotal chapter in world history, exploring the intricate interplay of political intrigue, religious conviction, personal ambition and the struggle for survival, according to VARIETY.
