Kolkata, May 31 -- Hours after Trinamool Congress national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly harassed during a visit to Sonarpur, the state government decided to enhance his security cover and provide him with X-category protection.
The decision was taken on Saturday night following the incident in Sonarpur, where Banerjee reportedly faced severe harassment while visiting the residence of a Trinamool Congress worker.
Questions were raised over the adequacy of the security arrangements provided to the MP during the visit.
Under the revised arrangement, three security personnel will now remain with Banerjee at all times. Until now, he had been accompanied by two security guards.
