Mumbai, June 16 -- The Maharashtra government is set to disrupt the ride-hailing market with the launch of two state-backed taxi services, 'Devabhau Sahakar Taxi' and 'Chhava Taxi', aimed at challenging the dominance of private app-based aggregators in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
The initiative, built on a cooperative business model, seeks to address long-standing concerns over high commission structures charged by existing private platforms. By operating through a state-supported framework, the government aims to enhance earnings for taxi owners and drivers while ensuring more affordable fares for commuters.
