New Delhi, July 2 -- India endured a disappointing start to the Canada Open 2026, with seven of its nine singles players crashing out in the opening round. Former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth's campaign also came to an unfortunate end after he retired hurt during his first-round match at the Markham Pan Am Centre on Thursday.
Srikanth was taking on Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia in one of the biggest matches of the opening day when he was forced to retire with the score at 11-10 in the first game. It was an unfortunate end for the Indian, who had beaten Lee just a week earlier on his way to finishing runner-up at the US Open. The result also gave Lee a 6-3 lead in their head-to-head record.
