Ahmedabad, June 17 -- Asian Games medallist Srihari Nataraj shattered his seven-year-old national record in the men's 50m backstroke while retaining the title on the opening day of the National Aquatics Championships here on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old Karnataka swimmer clocked 25.21 seconds in the morning heats, bettering his previous national mark of 25.58 set in 2019. He later secured the gold medal in the final with a time of 25.32 seconds.
Srihari's performance also helped him breach the qualification standards for both the upcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
