Kollam, Oct. 7 -- A special package should be formulated to revive Kollam's ailing cashew sector, which once provided employment to nearly two lakh women, Forest and Wildlife and Skill Development Minister Shibu Baby John has said.

Revival of the cashew industry could serve as a major initiative to rejuvenate the entire Kollam district, and the State Planning Board should formulate a comprehensive special package for the sector, he said.

The cashew industry in Kollam was now almost on the verge of extinction, while the fisheries sector was also passing through a crisis and the mineral-sands industry remained stagnant, Shibu Baby John said.
