Madrid, Aug. 31 -- Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Monday that there were signs that Russia and Israel had helped spread disinformation about Spain's migration policy, contributing to last month's unprecedented migrant influx into the Spanish territory of Ceuta. He rejected suggestions that Morocco had deliberately facilitated the crossings, while Israel denounced his accusation as a "brazen lie".
More than 72,000 migrants irregularly crossed from Morocco into Ceuta between July 30 and 31 in an unprecedented surge at one of the EU's only two land borders with Africa. At least 100 people died in the attempt, according to Ceuta's local authorities.
