Lucknow, July 26 -- The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Sunday observed Reservation Day as 'Samvidhan Maan Stambh Divas' (Constitutional Honor Pillar Day) at its state headquarters in Lucknow and district offices across Uttar Pradesh, with party president Akhilesh Yadav asserting that the Constitution remains the foundation for safeguarding reservation and social justice.

Addressing party workers at the SP state headquarters, Akhilesh Yadav said that on this day, Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj, the revered Maharaja of Kolhapur, implemented "reservation" in the Kolhapur State, as envisioned by Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.
