Seoul, Aug. 18 -- South Korean President Lee Jae Myung reaffirmed his plan to regain wartime operational control of the country's military from the United States before the end of his term in 2030, while calling for faster progress on South Korea's nuclear-powered submarine programme.
Speaking at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Lee said the transfer of wartime operational control, or OPCON, should be completed during his presidency in line with the government's original plan, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Lee also called for efforts to strengthen South Korea's independent defence capabilities while maintaining and reinforcing its alliance with the United States.
