Bengaluru, July 25 -- union Railway Minister V Somanna on Saturday announced a time-bound drive to clear garbage and construction debris from railway land across Bengaluru, setting a two-to-three-month deadline for the exercise and warning of stringent legal action against those found dumping waste thereafter.

Addressing reporters after a high-level coordination meeting with Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh, senior BBMP officials and Railway authorities, Somanna said the Railways and the State government had resolved to reclaim railway property from years of indiscriminate dumping through a joint campaign.
