Nahan, April 17 -- The social context of marrying two grooms is evident in Shillai village in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district, where polyandry is prevalent among the Hatti tribe. Under this practice, a woman can marry multiple brothers, with the aim of preserving family land and preventing its division.
This tradition has been prevalent for centuries and is accepted by society, although due to contemporary influences, such cases are now rare.
Reasons Behind Polyandry:Preventing Land fragmentation remains the main reason for this.
Polyandry also promotes family unity and mutual understanding, besides strengthening the family's economic situation.
