Kolkata, May 25 -- A six-year-old girl died after a streetlight mounted on a high mast lamppost fell on her while she was playing under the Vivekananda Setu on Monday morning, police said.
The police have identified the child as Guriya Khatun.
According to a senior police officer of the Howrah Police Commissionerate, the child lived with her family under the elevated corridor of the bridge, also called the Second Hooghly Bridge.
On Monday, she was playing on a section of the road below the bridge when the streetlight fell on her.
"She was taken to the SSKM hospital where doctors declared her dead," the officer said.
