Chandigarh, Sept. 1 -- Six pilgrims were killed and 14 injured when a pickup carrying a group from Uttar Pradesh crashed into the rear of a stationary truck on Haryana's Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway early Tuesday, police said.

Three women were among those killed in the crash in Palwal district. The pilgrims were travelling to Vrindavan after visiting the Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji temples in Rajasthan.

The impact crushed the front of the Tata pickup, leaving passengers trapped inside the vehicle. People passing through the area stopped to help before police and ambulances arrived.

The injured were taken to the civil hospital in Palwal, where six passengers were declared dead.
