Kolkata, April 5 -- In a significant first ruling, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Tribunal on Sunday directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to restore the name of Congress candidate Mehtab Sheikh in the electoral roll for the Farakka Assembly constituency in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.

The order, delivered by a tribunal bench headed by former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court T.S. Sivagnanam, comes as a major relief for the candidate, who had been unable to file his nomination due to the deletion of his name from the voter list.
