Bengaluru, May 24 -- Former Karnataka Minister and BJP MP Kota Srinivas Poojary on Sunday defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, stating that the exercise was aimed at ensuring that only genuine Indian citizens are allowed to vote.
Addressing reporters here, Poojary alleged that the Congress criticism of the SIR process was politically motivated and urged the party to cooperate with the initiative instead of spreading misinformation.
He said the exercise was intended to prevent illegal residents and non-genuine voters from obtaining voting rights while ensuring eligible Indian citizens are included in the electoral rolls.
