Chandigarh, Aug. 26 -- Excavation for constructing a new library in Gharuan village near Kharar in Punjab's Mohali district has reportedly led to the discovery of a mud pot containing old silver coins, drawing residents to the construction site late on Tuesday.
The coins were reportedly found when workers were digging the foundation of a library being built at the site of the old panchayat building. The discovery quickly spread through the village, bringing people to the spot to see the coins and search the excavated soil.
Residents said the coins appeared old and some reportedly carried Urdu inscriptions. Their exact number, age and historical origin have not yet been established by archaeologists.
