Bengaluru, May 28 -- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday formally announced that he has submitted his resignation to the Governor's office, setting in motion a constitutional transition process in the state.

Addressing a press conference, Siddaramaiah said the resignation letter was delivered to the Governor's office as the Governor was not present in Bengaluru at the time of submission.

"The Governor is out of station and is expected to return tonight. In his absence, the resignation letter has been submitted to his office secretary," he said.

Siddaramaiah said he acted in line with directions from the Congress leadership, reiterating that he would abide by the decisions of the party high command.
