Bengaluru, June 12 -- Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday rejected allegations of discrimination in the allocation of grants by the Backward Classes Welfare Department, asserting that the preliminary sanction process was carried out strictly in accordance with government norms and without favouring any particular community.

In a clarification issued amid criticism over the distribution of grants to backward class organisations, Siddaramaiah said the department had granted preliminary approval for projects worth Rs 71.85 crore for the construction of community halls and student hostels benefiting around 155 backward class associations and organisations across the state.
