Vijayapura (Karnataka), Aug. 5 -- Sacked BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Wednesday intensified his attack on the ruling Congress, alleging that Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had opposed the induction of senior leader MB Patil into the state Cabinet to prevent him from becoming politically influential.

Reacting to remarks by Congress MLAs Yashwant Rayagouda Patil and CS Nadagouda that they were denied ministerial berths because of Patil, Yatnal claimed that the controversy reflected internal power struggles within the Congress.

"DK Shivakumar himself created this situation. He did not want MB Patil to become influential," Yatnal told reporters in Vijayapura.
