Bengaluru/New Delhi, March 28 -- In a sharp escalation of cross-regional political rhetoric, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday entered the Assam political arena with a direct attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of resorting to "fear-driven polarisation" ahead of elections.

Positioning himself as a national campaigner for the Congress, Shivakumar said he would soon travel to Assam and Kerala, signalling the party's intent to intensify its outreach beyond state boundaries.

"Of course I am going to Assam. I will be there. We have to look after all states and do campaigning," he said, underscoring a coordinated push by the Indian National Congress leadership.
