Mumbai, Feb. 23 -- The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Monday mounted a strong political attack on the ruling Mahayuti alliance, accusing the state leadership of weakening democratic norms and displaying excessive political arrogance. In an editorial published in its party mouthpiece Saamana, the Thackeray faction compared the functioning of the present dispensation to the conduct of Duryodhana from the Mahabharata, cautioning that unchecked ego could ultimately lead to downfall.

The editorial was published as the Maharashtra Legislature's Budget Session commenced without the appointment of a Leader of the Opposition in either the Legislative Assembly or the Legislative Council.
