Brussels, June 29 -- Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz declined sharply over the weekend after a vessel was struck while transiting the waterway and fresh exchanges of strikes between the US and Iran strained their preliminary deal to end the war.
According to maritime tracking firm Kpler, 29 commodity vessels crossed the strait on Saturday, while only 12 transited on Sunday representing a significant decline from last week, when traffic surged following the memorandum of understanding signed by Tehran and Washington on June 15.
The agreement had prompted the busiest period of shipping activity since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war against Iran, with vessel crossings reaching a peak of 70 on Wednesday.
