Shimla, May 28 -- Polling for the second phase of Panchayati Raj Institution elections in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district recorded an overall voter turnout of 80.68 per cent till the close of polling on Thursday, according to official figures released by the district administration.

The elections were held across 13 development blocks of the district covering 149 gram panchayats and 812 polling stations.

As per the official data, a total of 88,627 male and 85,887 female electors were eligible to vote in the second phase, taking the total electorate to 1,74,514.

However, 1,40,797 voters turned up to vote comprising of 71,730 males and 69,067 females.
