Shillong, Sept. 3 -- The Meghalaya High Court has sought a detailed report on the police response to the August 19 Shillong violence during a black flag bike rally by the Khasi Students' union (KSU), and questioned why only four KSU leaders have been arrested despite allegations of widespread vandalism.
A bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, while hearing a PIL, observed that the rally ought not to have been allowed to proceed after clear breaches of permission conditions.
It also noted that participants were wearing masks and covering their faces despite an undertaking by the organisers that they would not, were carrying sticks/lathis in violation of Clause 8, and had covered vehicle number plates.
