Kolkata, Sept. 8 -- A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari appealed to big-budget and financially self-sufficient Durga Puja committees not to avail themselves of the government's Rs 1 lakh assistance, seven prominent pujas in Kolkata have decided not to apply for the grant.

The committees are Santosh Mitra Square, Tala Pratyay, Singhi Park Sarbojanin Durgotsab, Naktala Udayan Sangha, Chorbagan Sarbojanin, Santoshpur Lake Pally and Rajdanga Naba Uday Sangha.

Rajdanga Naba Uday Sangha has decided to accept the Rs 1 lakh assistance but donate the entire amount to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, according to its chairperson and BJP spokesperson Keya Ghosh.

The committee will not use the money for its puja arrangements.
