Hyderabad/New Delhi, July 17 -- Central Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy on Friday hailed the union Cabinet's approval of the 'Semicon 2.0' programme, saying the Rs 1.27 lakh crore initiative would transform India into a global semiconductor manufacturing and design hub while strengthening the country's self-reliance in electronics.
In a statement, the Minister said the Centre, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has also approved the Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme (MPMS) with an outlay of Rs 62,500 crore, taking the total investment in the semiconductor and mobile manufacturing sectors to about Rs 1.9 lakh crore.
