Parmod KumarNew Delhi, July 17 -- The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti's plea challenging the Delhi High Court's January 17, 2026 judgment upholding the election of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Satish Upadhyay from the Malviya Nagar Assembly constituency in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.
Agreeing to examine the matter in detail, a Bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta observed, "We will grant leave and hear it."Bharti had represented the Malviya Nagar Assembly constituency for three consecutive terms since 2013 before being defeated by BJP's Satish Upadhyay in the 2025 Assembly elections by a margin of about 2,100 votes.
