Parmod KumarNew Delhi, July 13 -- The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the operation of the Madras High Court judgment that had effectively prohibited the slaughter of cows and calves across Tamil Nadu, while issuing notice on the State government's appeal challenging the legality of the directions.
A Bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta passed the interim order staying the operation of the High Court judgment. Senior Advocate Dr. A.M. Singhvi and Additional Advocate General Prashanto Sen appeared for the Tamil Nadu government.
