Bengaluru, May 20 -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted Karnataka government a final extension till August 31 to conduct the long-pending elections to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) civic bodies, warning that no further delay would be permitted.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul Pancholi passed the order after the Karnataka government and the State Election Commission sought additional time to complete the electoral process.

The state government had reportedly sought extension till September 30, citing shortage of manpower due to the ongoing Census exercise, Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and academic examinations including SSLC and PUC tests. Howev...
