New Delhi, June 23 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to urgently list a writ petition challenging the West Bengal government's reported decision to deny ration benefits to individuals whose names are excluded from the electoral rolls following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Stating that the matter could be taken up before the High Court, a partial working days bench comprising Justices B V Nagarathna and Joymalya Bagchi refused the plea for urgent listing made by Advocate S Prasanna. The petition was filed by Paschim Banga Khet Majoor Samity, a farm labour union based in West Bengal.

The bench questioned the maintainability of the petition under Article 32, asking why the petitioner had not first approached the High Court. ...
