Parmod KumarNew Delhi, Aug. 5 -- The Supreme Court has directed the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA), in consultation with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), to evolve a pilot project linking the supply of fuel to vehicles with their valid insurance status, observing that vehicles without a valid insurance policy should be denied fuel at petrol pumps until the insurance is renewed.

The Court said the measure would help enforce the statutory requirement of compulsory third-party insurance and assist in identifying uninsured and unregistered vehicles.
