Sangli, July 22 -- The irrigation department of Sangli division today expressed concern over the rising water level in the Almatti irrigation dam in neighbouring Karnataka, which could lead to flooding in Maharashtra villages like Sangli and Kolhapur.

The Sangli Irrigation Department said that the water level in the Almatti Dam, built across the Krishna river in North Karnataka, should not be kept above 517.50 meters till August, but it has already reached at 518.10 meters as on the evening of July 21.

In a press release, the Sangli Irrigation Department said, that as per the Central Water Commission, there is a clear rule that the water level in the Almatti dam should not be kept above 517.50 meters till August.
